BLOWING ROCK AREA

  • Mystery Hill
    With 12 unique attractions, there is something for everyone in your family. For the future scientist- visit the natural gravitational anomaly, Hall of Mystery, Gem Mining and Bubblerama.  History buffs will love the Native American Artifact and 1903 Dougherty House Museum.  Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the historic farmyard (complete with bunnies!) and the river walk.  *Rainy Day Activity

  • Memorial & Broyhill Parks
    Located in downtown Blowing Rock, the town parks offer a variety of activities. 

    Memorial Park features a new playground for ages 12 and under, basketball and tennis courts and horseshoe pits.  The park is located across the street from Kilwin's Chocolate & Ice Cream, so you can enjoy a sweet treat on a bench overlooking the town. There is a picnic shelter and restrooms located adjacent to the park as well.

    Broyhill Park features Mayfield Lake.  Families can fish and feed the ducks or walk around the lake and listen to the spring peepers.

 

  • Doc's Rocks Gem Mine & Appalachian Fossil Museum
    Doc's Rocks, now located at Tanger Outlets, features an indoor gem mine. The geologist that owns the gem mine can help you identify the gems you find and even turn them into keepsakes! The fossil museum is located in the same building and North Carolina's largest private gemstone, mineral and fossil collection.  The collection features large dinosaur bones kids will love! *Rainy Day Activity

 

  • Price Park Picnic Area- Kids in Parks Trail
    Price Park is located at Milepost 297 on the Blue Ridge Parkway (just 6 miles from downtown Blowing Rock). The park is a great place to have a picnic and play in the creek.  There is also a trailhead for four track adventures provided by the Kids in Parks program.  The adventures take kids and families on a 1.4 mile scavenger hunt that will add excitment to the hike!

 

  • Ziplining and Adventure Parks

    High Gravity Adventures
    Located next to Mystery Hill, High Gravity features an aerial adventure park that has courses for different age groups from 4+. The courses feature swinging bridges, rope ladders and also exciting challenges. HG also features a zipline for anyone over 75 pounds.

    Sky Valley Zip Tours
    Located near the Blue Ridge Parkway, Sky Valley features Whistle Pig Adventures, a kid zip for ages 4-18.  The park had a 20 foot slide through the forest that is a thrill for any kid! 

 

BOONE AREA

  • Hickory Ridge History Museum
    Reopening for the season on April 13th, the museum staff will take your family on a tour of six historic cabins and talk about the daily life of area settlers. 

 

  • Mast General Store & Candy Barrel
    Located in downtown Boone, the Mast General Store & Candy Barrel features old-time toys and treats that will entertain all ages. *Rainy Day Activity


  • ASU Sculpture Tour
    Walk around the Appalachian State University campus and view eight sculptures that are part of the annual Rosen Outdoor Sculpture competition.  This is a great way to tour the campus!  Tip: Stop on King Street and pick up a cone of ice cream or a cookie from Blue Deer before your tour.

 

  • Rocky Knob Park
    Located on the outskirts of Boone, the park is a premiere mountain biking location.  If you don't have your bikes, there is also a hiking trail that meanders through the woods and open meadows.  A new playground, picnic shelter and restroom facilities are also on site.

 

  • Boone Greenway
    The Greenway is paved making it a great place to ride bikes or take a stroll.  There are picnic tables, green areas to play lawn games and water access for play or fishing. The greenway is located near the new Watauga Community Recreation Center and playground as well.
