These events are free and open to the public. Guests are invited to bring an acoustic instrument to participate in the jams or listen and observe the fiddle tunes and folk songs in a close-up and casual environment. Each week, various musicians from the local community, as well as visitors, gather throughout the Jones House. After catching up and choosing a key, the music begins until the "last call for tunes" comes around 9:45.

The Fourth of July celebration at Sugar Mountain Resort will come alive with festivities all day long. The Rockabillys will liven up the airwaves with a classic country and rock & roll performance from 10 am until 1 pm. Later from 6 pm until 9 pm. Classic Highway will bring a mix of classic rock, soul, 60s-70s-80s, and blues music to the stage. Food and beverages will be available at the mountain’s base and summit.
A mountain-top firework show, sponsored by the Village of Sugar Mountain Tourism Development Authority, will light the High Country sky around 9:15 p.m. The Summit Express chairlift will operate from 7:30 p.m. until 10 p.m., July 4 for those viewing the fireworks from the mountain’s mile-high peak. A valid lift ticket will be required to take the round-trip ride aboard the Summit Express chairlift.

Located in the mountains, Ashe Countys longest running festival, Christmas in July will be the grand finale for Independence Day celebrations when it opens on Friday, July 5 at 5 PM with a full lineup of entertainers and food vendors, making downtown West Jefferson the perfect spot to spend Friday evening. A regular Farmers Market opens at 8 AM on Saturday, July 6, followed by craft vendors, local non-profits, and specialty food vendors opening at 9 AM. The festival will extend throughout the downtown area along Jefferson Avenue, with sidewalks left clear for walking and browsing the shops. Ashe County Arts Council will host children’s activities, performers will rove the streets showcasing their magical talents, and Santa & Mrs. Claus will arrive straight from the North Pole. A great lineup of entertainers will take the stage to perform throughout the festival, playing traditional mountain music, contemporary country, rock, jazz, and beach music. The Christmas in July Festival celebrates Ashe County, a leading producer of Christmas trees and our mountain heritage with arts, crafts, and local entertainers representative of the region.
