Take your kids to visit the factory viewing room and see the machines at work. Next, have your photo taken by the trademark giant milk cows. Then, head across the street to get some famous cheese curds and a glass bottle of soda from the factory store to snack on while you walk around town.

If you have children that love trains you need to visit the Museum of Ashe County History. The museum has an extremely detailed diorama of the Virginia Creeper train route through the North Carolina High Country. there is also a scavenger hunt of items to look for in the diorama as well.

Mount Jefferson Kid's Trail

Rising 1,600 feet above the town of West Jefferson, Mount Jefferson is a great spot for a summer picnic with children. After you finish lunch, head out for a hike on the Kids in Parks TRACK trail located here. The trail has a scavenger hunt handout at the trail head!
