Rafting Nolichucky River

Top Worldwide Rafting River in North Carolina

When it comes to outdoor adventure, North Carolina is always on the top of the list from the mountains to the sea.  Now rafting can be added as another reason to visit the old north state for outdoor fun. The International Rafting Federation President and International Whitewater Hall of Fame honouree, Rafael Gallo, just listed the Nolichucky River as #8 on the Top 10 Best Rafting Rivers of the World shortlist.  The Nolichucky can be found alongside internationally known rivers such as the Colorade and Zambezi rivers.

"While most first time rafters think of the Nolichucky River rapids as being located solely in Tennessee, seasoned pros know that the best class four rapids are actually found on the North Carolina side of the river," says Jeff Stanley, Wahoo's Adventures.  The legendary rapids with names such as: Jaws, Murphys Ledge, On the Rocks, Rollar Coaster and Quarter Mile, can all be found after putting in near Poplar, North Carolina in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains.

Even though the Nolichucky River now has international rafting status, the river is still appropriate for all skill levels. Beginners age 7 and older can take a high-thrills trip through steep-walled canyons and thickly-forested mountains. It is sure to be a trip of a lifetime.
