LABOR DAY WEEK(END) EVENTS

  • TAPESTRY WEAVING DEMO
    August 30- Sept 1, 10-4pm, Moses Cone Manor Front Porch, Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock
    Sandy Adair will be demonstrating how she creates her large mountain landscapes on a tapestry loom. Visitors are encouraged to watch and ask questions while the demonstrators work and talk about their creative process!
  • JONES HOUSE SUMMER CONCERTS
    August 30, 5pm, Jones House Lawn, Downtown Boone
    Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets to enjoy the music from the lawn. Alcoholic beverages are permitted if patrons are of legal age, but no open containers are allowed beyond the Jones House property. Parking is free in downtown Boone metered spaces and lots after 5 PM.  This week: The Moon & You, Fwuit

    SALAMANDER STROLL
    August 30, 7pm, Beech Mountain Parks and Rec
    Get outside with Beech Mtn Parks and Recreation, Watauga River Keeper, & Lees-McRae College. Grab your headlamps for an evening program all about Salamanders! Learn about our amphibious friends with a night hike to follow. While FREE to attend - Registration is required: 828-387-3003

    August 30-31, 6-9pm, Green Park Inn, Blowing Rock
    Free concerts every Friday and Saturday night with local jazz musician Charlie Ellis! The Divide Tavern is open to the public.

    FAMILY FUN NIGHT
    August 30, 4-7:30pm, Brick Oven Pizzeria, Beech Mountain
    Live music (5:30-8:30) and a bounce house for the kids(4pm-7:30pm). The event is free, and food and beverage are available for purchase. (This is an outdoor event and is weather dependent).

    SCENIC LIFT RIDES
    August 31- September 31, 10-6pm, Sugar Mountain Resort, Sugar Mountain
    Ride the scenic Summit Express lift to the top and back or navigate the downhill bike trails. Open 10 AM-6 PM.

    MILE HIGH KITE FESTIVAL AND STREET DANCE
    August 31, 10-4pm, Sledding Hill, Beech Mountain
    Two recognized kite clubs, one from Charlotte, N.C. and one from Richmond, Va., will be on hand to demonstrate flying techniques, staff kite clinics and help folks build their own kites. Free kites will be given to the first 150 children under the age of 13.  Street dance at 6pm at the town hall parking lot.

    ART ON THE GREENE
    August 31- September 1, 10-5pm, Historic Banner Elk School, Downtown Banner Elk
    Festivities include food vendors and other entertainment. Craft vendors represent a variety of media, such as metal, glass, ceramics, wood, watercolor, acrylics and oil.
