BEST BOONE NC WINTER OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

  • Boone Jaycee Park and Strawberry Hill
    The Jaycee Park is the preferred sledding spot in Boone and also featured a playground for kids to get the wiggles out! Find details HERE. Located across the street from Jaycee Park, Strawberry Hill has a short nature trail that leads to a fantastic view of Boone. *Bathrooms closed from Nov-March.  Parking lot has town maintained snow removal

  • Boone NC Greenway Trail
    A local favorite for walking, biking and letting your dog stretch there legs is the Greenway Trail.  The trail is flat, paved and meanders through town, over creeks and through wooded areas.  There are plenty of places to stop for a picnic at a sheltered table, go fishing, and find a parking spot.  HERE is a detailed map of the trail. 

    **The trail is also popular for cross country skiing and snowshoeing on heavy snow days.  The trail has town maintained snow removal, but is last on the priority list, so if you hit the trail immediately after a big snow, you will have a chance!  Find details HERE

  • Rocky Knob Park
    Opened in 2011, Rocky Knob Park has trails for both hiking and mountain biking.   The park has 5 trails with the longest being 4 miles.  The wooded trails have pleasing views of Boone. The park also has a natural playground, picnic shelter (bathrooms closed Nov-April).  Check winter trail status on the FB page HERE

  • Horton Hotel Rooftop Lounge
    The new boutique hotel in downtown Boone offers 360 views from the rooftop lounge.  Grab a drink from the lounge and head to the rooftop where you can get warm around fire spheres with cozy blankets. Find details HERE

  • Appstate Sculpture Walk
    Grab a sculpture walking tour map at the Turchin Center and take a walk around Appalachian State University's Campus to catch the true college vibe. The university keeps all sidewalks well-maintained.

  • Appstate "The Schaefer Center Presents"

  • The Jones House
    The community center of Boone hosts indoor winter concerts on Sunday evenings and old-time jam sessions every Thursday at 7:30pm. Click HERE

  • The Children's Playhouse
    Located near downtown Boone, this is the place to take children 8 and under on a cold, wet day! The museum features art activities, imaginative play areas, a climbing walland much more! Must reserve online- Click HERE

  • Mast General Store
    A trip to Boone is not complete without a stop at the Mast General Store's Old Boone Merchantile! The circa 1913 emporium is brimming with old-time housewares and candies, outdoor clothing and gear and maybe even a kitchen sink.

  • Turchin Center for the Visual Arts
    The Turchin Center is part of Appalachian State University and has seven art galleries of changing artworks. The galleries feature contemporary art from local, regional, national and international artists. Admission to the galleries is free. Art workshops are available for adults and children. *NOTE: The gallery is closed on Sunday and Monday

  • Downtown Breweries, Lounges and Restaurants

  • Boone Winter Farmer's Market  This indoor market runs every Saturday from Dec-April, 9-noon at the Watauga Ag Center conveniently located off King Street in downtown Boone. The market features local meats, produce, baked goods, bath products, as well as, live music and crafts! Click HERE
