  • Blowing Rock NC Christmas Festival & Lighting of the Town
    November 22, 12-6:30pm
    Christmas in Memorial Park features: 12-3: Santa, 1:30-3:30: Kids Games, Live Music: 2:30-6:30, Lighting of the Town: 5:30ish

  • Blowing Rock NC Christmas Parade
    November 23, 10am
    Held on Main Street in Blowing Rock, this small town parade in one of the longest in the state and features community floats, music, antique cars and much more!

  • Chetola Resort Winter Festival of Lights
    DAILY November 23-Blowing Rock Winterfest: Dusk
    Chetola Resort becomes a Winter Wonderland with over 50,000 dazzling lights around Chetola lake and its surroundings.  The festival is free and open to the public, with more information available at the gatehouse. 
    TIP: Visit during the week for less crowds

  • Saturdays with Santa at The Blowing Rock
    November 23- December 22, 11-2pm
    Enjoy a special visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and enjoy the clear winter views from North Carolina's Oldest Attraction. Free admission for children and accompanying paid adult.

  • Crazy Christmas at Mystery Hill
    December 1-31, Daily
    Special holiday activities and events happening throughout the season. Visit the free light tunnel starting mid-November and take your photo! Click HERE

 

BEST BLOWING ROCK NC WINTER OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

  • App Ski Mtn
    For "all things snow" head to the High Country's first ski area. The resort features 12 slopes with choices for all ages and abilities, 3 terrain parks, outdoor ice skating and the French Swiss Ski School. View details HERE
  • The Blowing Rock
    North Carolina's Oldest Tourist Attraction is a must see when in Blowing Rock.  Enjoy the endless winter views and read the legend. **The "rock" is closed Tuesday & Wednesday in the winter, call ahead during inclement weather. View details HERE

  • Glen Burney Falls Trail
    The trail to these falls is said to be an ancient Native American pathway and descends steeply through John’s River Gorge.  The trail is less than 2 miles long and offers several mini falls along the way that make for good photographs. The trailhead is located in the heart of Blowing Rock at Annie Gannon Park on Laurel Lane, just two blocks from Main Street.

  • Moses Cone Park Trails
    These trails located in the Moses Cone Memorial Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway are ideal for winter hiking.  They are well maintained with gravel, so are less likely to be muddy and slick!  The trail system can also be accessed from multiple points even when the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed for winter travel.   • Blowing Rock Sledding- Blue Ridge Parkway Entrance MP 294
    The hills seen at this locations are a favorite place for locals to sled on a nice snow day! (And since the parkway is usually closed when it snows, you can just park to the side of the road.) 

  • High Gravity Adventures
    This aerial adventure park features a three-person giant swing, aerial course with 75 different challenges and a 1,000 foot zipline. While the park is closed for the winter, they do open on holiday weekends such as MLK and Valentine's Day.  View details HERE

  • Mystery Hill
    Fun for all ages, the gravitational anomaly has been fascinating visitors since 1948. While you are there, visit the hands on science activities, bubblerama, Professor Finnegan's Old Time Photo and the Dougherty House featuring a large arrowhead collection and Appalachian history. Click HERE

  • Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM)
    This free museum will open winter exhibitions in time for the holiday season. Open Tues-Sun, 11-4.

  • Docs Rocks Gem Mine
    Located at the entrance of Shoppes on the Parkway, Docs Rocks features an indoor heated flume for sluicing ore mined locally. Docs Rocks also features indoor mini golf and a nerf/virtual laser tag arena! Click HERE
