Holiday Light Displays in the NC High Country
Driving around looking at Christmas Lights is a fond memory for many families, and there are still places to enjoy this tradition in the NC High Country! Here is our list of favorite places to see Christmas lights in the Boone, Blowing Rock, West Jefferson and Banner Elk area:
Festival of Lights
Chetola Resort, Blowing Rock NC
Thousands of holiday illuminations light up Chetola beginning at dusk on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and run through Blowing Rock Winterfest at the end of January.
As you drive around Chetola Lake view glittering ice skaters, a nativity scene, a colorful train, Rudolph’s “Holiday Catch” and much more.
**TIP: Have dinner at Timberlake's while you are there. If you happen to drive through on a Friday night, stay for the smore's bonfire by the lake.
12 Days of Christmas
Linville Land Harbor, Linville NC
Experience the 12 Days of Christmas with a wonderfully festive and interactive lights display. There will be polar bears dancing, color lights, Christmas trees and so much more. Feel free to drive through and get in the holiday spirit!
Light Up the Town
Downtown West Jefferson NC
The town of West Jefferson and downtown businesses flip the switch on thousands of lights Thanksgiving Weekend and they will stay on til New Year's! This is a great place to walk through the downtown area and see the displays, then stop in at a local restaurant for dinner.
High Country Lights
Outside Sparta NC
Located in Galax, VA, High Country Lights is a short drive from Sparta, NC. High Country Lights, located at Felts Park, is a holiday spectacular you'd bring the family to and watch for hours. It's an animated display where 100K lights are choreographed to Christmas music. Tune the radio to 95.9FM and relax in the comfort of your vehicle or hike around the walking trail and listen to the music. The show operates nightly from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, Sunday through Thursday, and 6:00pm to 11:00pm Friday and Saturday, Thanksgiving through New Year's Day with the exception during inclement weather. Admission is free.
