Downtown Boone is a happening place!  With the campus of Appalachian State University located behind the main street of downtown Boone (King Street), the town thrives with the lively college students and locals alike.  Here is our itinerary of can't miss things to do on a day trip to Downtown Boone NC:

INSIDER TIP: If you are starting your day in Downtown Boone in the morning, try Melanie's Food Fantasy or Boone Bagelry for breakfast.  These two restaurants are local staples! 

Start your tour of Downtown Boone at the gateway of the downtown area with a visit to the largest visual arts center in the region. The Turchin Center is part of Appalachian State University and has seven art galleries of changing artworks. The galleries feature contemporary art from local, regional, national and international artists. Admission to the galleries is free. Art workshops are available for adults and children.

*NOTE: The gallery is closed on Sunday and Monday

Explore the beautiful campus of Appalachian State University and view the 11 winning sculptures of the nationally recognized Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition. This annual exhibition highlights  contemporary American sculpture in an outdoor setting. The  sculptures change in May every year and complement the 40 other permanent sculptures on campus.

Visit the "Heart of Downtown Boone" and view a rotating gallery featuring art from local artists in the Mazie Jones Gallery.  Be sure to check out the schedule for indoor concerts in the winter months.  If you are visiting in the summer, outdoor concerts are held on the front porch every Friday at 5!

If you are interested in viewing more historic buildings in downtown Boone, head down the street to the downtown Boone Post Office and view the mural.
