BEST BEECH MOUNTAIN NC WINTER OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

  • Beech Mountain Free Sledding Hill
    *Open November-February* Located by and managed by the Beech Mountain Visitor Center, this sledding hill is for children under 12.The sledding hill features it's own snow blowing machine, and with Beech Mountain being "The Highest Town on the East Coast" there is a high chance it will be cold enough most days to have snow. TIP: If you need a sled, just walk down the street to Freds General Merchantile and find a wide variety available on the front porch.

  • Beech Mountain Emerald Outback Hiking & Snowshoeing
    This hiking & biking trail system maintained by the town has over 5 miles of maintained trails. The trails are known for being less traveled, so you might have them all to yourself! Free snowshoe rentals are available at the Buckeye Recreation Center on Beech Mountain!   • Beech Mountain Kite Field
    Located across the street from the sledding hill, the field is the perfect spot for kite flying with a nice steady breeze coming off the mountainside.  Beside the kite field is a dog park for your friend to run around as well!  TIP: If you need a kite, walk across the street to Freds General Merchantile.

  • Beech Mountain Resort
    The highest ski resort east of the Rockies is home to skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and snow tubing. Don't ski?  The resort also has a lodge and lots of tables to observe the activities while sipping a coffee.

  • Fred's General Merchantile
    Fred's is the one (and only) shop for any and everything atop Beech Mountain.  Find Wizard of Oz memorabilia, handmade baskets and even homegrown tomatoes. If you need a kite for flying or a sled for sledding, they have those too! LOCAL TIP: Go upstairs to find discounted ski and outdoor apparel.

  • Buckeye Recreation Center
    This 22,500 square foot facility is a hidden gem in the NC High Country.  There are so many activites here for children and families, including:
    • Indoor basketball, volleyball & tennis
    • Children's indoor playroom

  • Brick Oven Pizzeria
    Voted by High Country Visitor Center staff as "The Best Pizza in the NC High Country," this pizzeria with a truly local vibe is a must visit while in the area.
