We all know that Santa covers the whole world delivering presents to good children in just one night, but have you ever stopped and asked yourself how? Santa has long used gravitational vortexes just like ours at Mystery Hill to warp himself from place to place! However this year some mischievous elves have messed with Santa’s vortex generator, setting it off early! Now elves are scattered all over our mysterious hillside. Bring your family to help rescue these stranded elves to save Christmas!

There are sunrises, and then there are Grandfather Mountain sunrises. And then there are Grandfather Mountain New Year’s Day sunrises.
Ring in an epic New Year on Saturday, Jan. 1, for the first sunrise of 2022 — atop Grandfather Mountain.
This special event will allow guests the rare opportunity to visit Grandfather Mountain outside of regular operating hours and on a holiday.
Sunrise is at 7:38 a.m. Jan. 1, 2022, and Grandfather’s gates will open at 6:30 a.m. Due to safety regulations, participants may only visit the Mile High Swinging Bridge area, including the Top Shop, during the event. To help warm up on a likely cold winter’s morning, the mountain will offer a complimentary hot beverage bar and pastries for sunrise guests.
Participants are encouraged to bring a flashlight and wear heavy winter jackets, hats, gloves and rubber-soled shoes, as there may be slick surfaces on the mountain. The event may be cancelled upon short notice in case of inclement weather.
Admission to the New Year’s sunrise event costs $50 for general admission, $35 for children (ages 4-12) and $25 for members of Grandfather Mountain’s Bridge Club. Admission includes an entire day’s access to Grandfather Mountain. As the remainder of the park doesn’t open until 9 a.m., participants are welcome to leave the park following sunrise to return later in the day for no additional cost.
This event is limited to 100 guests. If the event is sold out, a waiting list will be available. To have your name placed on the waiting list, please email judi@grandfather.com.

Winter Trails Day offers children and adults new to snow sports the chance to try snowshoeing for FREE. Discover the fun and fitness of snow sports. Guided tours are available on the hour from 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. The program includes a forty-five-minute tour and snowshoe rental. Adult tours are for those who are 12 years or older. Children’s tours are for those ages 8-11. Sign up at least fifteen minutes prior to your tour time at the ski/snowboard school.
