It’s a wildly creative and campy film about a happy couple with a lovely country house who die in a car accident and must haunt their old home while waiting to be processed into heaven. Too nice to be scary, they befriend the new tenant's daughter. When they fail to prevent the girl's parents from ruining the house, they ask a devilish spirit for help. Patrons and supporters of the Appalachian Theatre should note that the venue is committed to the health and safety of its community and will continue to follow the guidance of health and governmental officials in the development and implementation of COVID related policies. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and under and are available online as part of the theatres touchless ticketing program at www.appptheatre.org. Both gifted musicians and songwriters, they have shared billing with artists including Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Doyle Lawson, Rhonda Vincent, Marty Stuart, Doc Watson and more. As young boys, Christopher and Taylor Malpass soaked up the music of their granddad’s phonograph records. Christopher earned his first talent show trophy at age 7, and Taylor was playing mandolin by the time he was 10. Today, they promote the work and music of classic country artists they treasure while creating new music and making their own mark in the lineage of a rich American cultural heritage. With sincerity, honesty and an utter ease on stage that belies their years, their smooth vocal blend and skillful musicianship layer infectiously into the deep respect they pay to legends who have paved the way. Add the funny, off-the-cuff quips between the two 20-something siblings, and the engaging concert becomes a magnetic time-traveling journey to when a calmer rhythm reigned supreme. The Malpass Brothers toured with the late Don Helms, former steel guitarist for Hank Williams, have opened for music legend Merle Haggard on multiple tours and appeared on stages from the Shetland Islands to Ryman Auditorium to Merlefest. Gifted musicians and songwriters, the brothers have shared billing with artists including Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Doyle Lawson, Rhonda Vincent, Marty Stuart, Doc Watson and more. The title cut video from their “Memory That Bad” album hit CMT Pure Country’s Top Ten. Their most recent self-titled recording, produced by bluegrass legend Doyle Lawson, was released by Crossroads’ Organic Records in 2015. This

I used these dissimilar cosmologies as points of departure and discovered as I went along that they have a lot in common - a desire to transcend earthly bounds, to bond with something or someone greater. They seem to complement each other, reflecting different parts of us: the myths, our behaviors; the hymns, our prayers. —Adam Guettel, New York City 1999 As a facet of Appalachian Opera Theatre, the Opera Workshop course at the Hayes School of Music will present Selections from Myths and Hymns by Adam Guettel. Opera Workshop is made up of non-auditioned performers eager to share their talent on the stage. Included in the cast are nineteen singers, a piano, violin, guitar, and percussion who will perform, in English, solos and ensembles that possess the styles and influences of jazz, modern classical, and contemporary pop. As mentioned in the above quote, the songs are based on texts from mythological stories and lyrics from a hymnal which compliment each other not only in the general theme of a desire to transcend earthly bounds, but also in more specific themes that arise from the mythological stories. The songs are performed with minimal staging in a pseudo-cabaret style setting.

The Del McCoury Band, fronted by the legendary McCoury, is the most awarded band in bluegrass history. The bands take the stage together for a one-night-only double-bill concert at the Schaefer Center. Yonder Mountain String Band… With their instrumental prowess and adventurous musical spirit, Yonder Mountain String Band were — and still are — a pioneering group in the emerging progressive bluegrass scene that now includes marquee acts like Billy Strings, Railroad Earth, Greensky Bluegrass and the Infamous Stringdusters. —Rolling Stone The Del McCoury Band… Even among the pantheon of music’s finest artists, Del McCoury stands alone. From the nascent sound of bluegrass that charmed hardscrabble hillbilly honkytonks, rural schoolhouse stages, and the crowning glory of the Grand Ole Opry, to the present-day culture-buzz of viral videos and digital streams, Del is the living link. … No surprise that contemporary, bluegrass-bred stars sang his praises; marquee names like Vince Gill and Alison Krauss (who first met Del at a bluegrass festival when she subbed for his missing fiddler). Yet, here too was rocker [Steve] Earle recording and touring with the group. Here was Phish jamming onstage with the boys. Here was the band on TV, or headlining rock clubs and college campuses; the can’t-miss appearances at country and jazz festivals. There was Del.
