Looking for an easy way to take in the NC mountain views this summer and fall? Try a chairlift ride! Two of the three ski resorts in the NC High Country offer scenic lift rides during the summer (and sometimes) fall months. Find the details below:
App Ski Mountain
Blowing Rock, NC
Appalachian Ski Mountain does not offer scenic lift rides. The ski lift is only open during ski season (usually late November - March) for those that have purchased a lift ticket and can ski/snowboard to the base of the mountain.
Beech Mountain Resort

Take a lift ride to 5,506'! Scenic lift rides are offered Thursday- Sunday from 10-6pm from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Trips are offered until the end of September, Friday-Sunday from 10-6pm. Single round-trip lift rides are $20 pp (child free under 5).
TIPS:
- The 5506" Sky Bar is open at the top of the lift ride! Hop off and enjoy a drink and the view before heading back down.
- If you play disc golf or mountain bike, you can take the lift up and enjoy either sport on the mountain, instead of taking the lift back down.
- Don't forget sunscreen, a big hat and a jacket. There is no shade on the lift, and the weather conditions can change dramatically on the mountain.

Sugar Mountain Resort
Sugar Mountain, NC
The Summit Express chairlift shuttles sightseers and mountain bikers from the base of Sugar Mountain to its 5,300’ peak – taking you up 1,200 in elevation.
Enjoy scenic lift rides, Friday-Sunday, July 4th Weekend - Labor Day (included Labor Day Monday) from 10-6pm. Tickets are $25 for a one-time roundtrip sightseeing ride (all ages).
TIPS:
- Bring a jacket and sunscreen! Temps can be 10 degrees cooler as you ascend.
- Take in the leaf color with a scenic lift ride during Oktoberfest (held the second weekend in October).
