Known for some of the best long range mountain views in North Carolina, Elk Knob State Park also has some of the best bluet wildflower patches. Take the Summit Trail for the best wildflower patches and breathtaking views of five mountain ranges.
Blooming from May-August, bluets are native to North America and grow 3-6 inches tall with many small 4-petal flowers, light to dark blue.

Doughton Park- Blue Ridge Parkway
Sparta NC
One of the best kept secrets of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Doughton Park offers long range views, a great campground, restaurant and large picnic area. The Bluff Mountain Trail is a 7.5 mile trail with many spots to drop on and off.
