She grew up on a horse-powered farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains and comes from a family line of ballad and shape-note singers who were also farmers, teachers, and experts in traditional foodways. Mary brings to her presentations the cast of mountain characters and musicians who have inhabited her world since birth.
