High Country Barn Quilt Trails

Did you know High Country Barn Quilt Trails can be found in every town?  Beech Mountain, Banner Elk, Newland, Boone, West Jefferson, Wilkesboro and Sparta all have Barn Quilt Trails! These trails are a great way to explore the countryside of our small towns by auto.  Here are maps and links to the trails in the High Country region:

Beech Mountain Barn Quilt Trail

Beech Mountain - Banner Elk Area Barn Quilt Trail

The newly revived Avery County Barn Quilt trail has a new map! The trail has been split into three sections. Each section will give you a chance to explore the many backroads off the mountains (did you know that Beech Mountain has more roads than any town in the area?!).

West Jefferson Barn Quilt Trail

West Jefferson Barn Quilt Trail

Ashe County has the biggest collection of barn quilts with over 150 documented sites!  Because of the overwhelming amount of quilts, the trail has been split into six different loops.

**If you need to pick just one loop, we suggest the "red loop."  This loop takes you through some of the prettiest and most historic areas of Ashe County.

Unfortunately, the loops have not been mapped, but detailed driving instructions are available.

Sparta Barn Quilt Trail

Sparta Barn Quilt Trail

Launched by the Alleghany Quilters Guild in 2009, the Sparta NC Barn Quilt Trail meanders throught the town of Sparta and the Alleghany County countryside.

You can pick up a paper map with photos of the barn quilts at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce in Downtown Sparta.

Wilkesboro Barn Quilt Trail

Wilkesboro Barn Quilt Trail

The Wilkes County Barn Quilt Trail features 17 quilts in many different parts of the county.  The quilt trail is not currently mapped out, but a list of sites with addresses is available.
