This workshop will focus on storytelling through visual mediums. Participants will learn the basics of turning a personal memory into a narrative and then illustrate it.
All levels of painting experience are welcome and encouraged.
Join us for a workshop with storyteller and painter, Theresa Gloster. Theresa was selected to be one of South Arts Folk & Traditional Arts Master Artist Fellows for 2021. "My art tells stories about childhood, about memories sparked by things that go on in the world today, or about just whatever comes to mind," explained Gloster. "I use paint, brushes, needles, thread, or whatever I can find to create art, and to tell the stories that need to be told." The emphasis is always on stories. Gloster is as much a chronicler as she is a painter; she has always seen her role as a holder and visual teller of stories. That's why kinfolk and community members regularly choose her house for their gatherings—because her home is always filled with painted narratives, reminding all those who have gathered of who they have been and who they are.

OUR SATURDAY KIDS THEATER SERIES) A play filled with charm and energetic humor. Creative storytelling drives the action and the actors, and the audience partners in the tales. Two bumbling actors try to present a few of the world's most beloved fairy tales. Unfortunately, their script becomes seriously scrambled and they perform "Goldisocks and the Three Wolves," "The Three Billy Trolls Gruff," and "The Three Little Bears." It takes the help of the whole audience to set the stories straight.

Disney’s Mary Poppins is a 1964 musical fantasy based on P. L. Travers's book series of the same name. Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson, and Glynis Johns are featured in supporting roles. It received a total of 13 Academy Awards nominations, including Best Picture – a record for any film released by Walt Disney Studios – and won five, including Best Actress for Andrews, Best Original Music Score, and Best Original Song for Chim Chim Cher-ee. The film was selected for
preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant. The film will be screened at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 6.
