When a lover of classic musicals puts the vinyl of his favorite 1920s production, The Drowsy Chaperone, on his turntable, the record comes to life and the zany characters come busting through his refrigerator door! Often referred to as a musical within a comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone won five Tony Awards and was called the perfect Broadway musical by The New York Magazine, praised for its humor and heart. This production will have audiences sore from laughing as they tap their toes to one show-stopping song and dance number after another.

With determination (and a bullhorn), a crotchety, old retiree is on a mission to save the loons of Lake Winnipesaukee. His summer expectations are thwarted by a brash, townie teenager hired to clean the house next door. While the two initially grate on each other, they gradually form a unique intergenerational bond. This heart-warming show is an often humorous, and sometimes poignant tale of two individuals learning to take back control of their lives.

Outdoor concert and fireworks in collaboration with the Town of Boone.
With legends like George Jones, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard all passed on, country music
purists often echo the question Jones himself asked- Who is going to fill their shoes? The answer,
in part, is Marty Stuart. The Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and musician is living, breathing
country-music history. He’s played alongside the masters, from Cash to Lester Flatt, and continues
to record and release keenly relevant music that honors country’s rich legacy while advancing it into
the future.

Symphony of the Mountains has a strong and proud heritage. The orchestra began when a small group of musicians dreamed of having a civic orchestra in 1946. Through the decades the musical enrichment included classical concerts, entertaining pops and light musical offerings, captivating soloists, and empowering opportunities for young musicians. In the 80’s and 90’s the orchestra grew steadily and increased its outreach. The orchestra has become a fully-professional orchestra. Today the orchestra consists of more than 70 professional musicians and is conducted by Cornelia Laemmli Orth.

This presentation will be about the creation of the life size ‘Jessie’ sculpture in front of the Blowing Rock Community Library. We will be joined by the artist, Cantey Tanner. She will tell us about her inspiration for becoming a sculptor - primarily her grandmother and namesake who was an artist, philanthropist, and community activist in Raleigh. Cantey will illustrate the process of sculpting and casting ‘Jessie’. 'Jessie' has a twin sister who lives at the Raleigh Rose Garden and Shelley Crisp will tell us the history of the Raleigh Rose Garden, a garden created as a showcase for the citizens of North Carolina to visit in the capital city.
About the Speakers:
**Cantey Tanner** is a summer resident of Blowing Rock, currently serving on the Board of Governors of BRAHM and the Advisory Board of Raleigh Little Theatre. She recently retired from a 30-year career as a portrait sculptor and teacher, creating commissioned portraits of small to life-sized sculptures, primarily of children. Her work is in private collections and galleries along the East Coast. In 2011 she created a life-size sculpture named ‘Jessie’ for the town of Blowing Rock in honor of her late aunt Grace Carr. It has been embraced by the community and has become one of the most photographed features of downtown Blowing Rock.
**Shelley Crisp** is a native North Carolinian who converted a passion for literature into a professional commitment to education and the humanities. A docent at the North Carolina Museum of Art since 2010, Crisp has served on the boards of the FRANK in Orange County, the Raleigh Little Theatre, and the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County. She was a Yonahlossee camper, inspired by those experiences to sustain a lifelong connection to Blowing Rock and the Appalachian Mountains.

Broadway’s Next Hit Musical is the only unscripted theatrical awards show. Have you heard of the TONY awards? Well, Broadway’s Next Hit Musical is…The PHONY Awards! The audience members write down made up song titles and our master improvisers gather these suggestions and present them as “nominated songs†for this coveted award. We create spontaneous scenes and songs filled with great dancing, catchy melodies, and tons of laughter. The audience votes for their favorite song and watches as the cast turns that song into a full blown improvised musical – complete with memorable characters, witty dialogue, and plot twists galore. BNHM has been seen recently throughout the United States and in New York City at The Triad Theater, The Tribeca Film Festival, and at The New York Musical Theater Festival, among many other locations.

OUR SATURDAY KIDS THEATER SERIES) A play filled with charm and energetic humor. Creative storytelling drives the action and the actors, and the audience partners in the tales. Two bumbling actors try to present a few of the world's most beloved fairy tales. Unfortunately, their script becomes seriously scrambled and they perform "Goldisocks and the Three Wolves," "The Three Billy Trolls Gruff," and "The Three Little Bears." It takes the help of the whole audience to set the stories straight.

We will meet in the Museum’s main lobby at 3:00 for a stroll through the exhibit with Willard Watson, Program and Outreach Director, and Rebecca Chaplin, Associate State Director, AARP NC. They’ll lead us through a few examples of lives well-lived in the service of others, followed by light refreshments. At AARP, we believe that no one's possibilities should be limited by age, and that experience has value. Older adults are energized by contributing to their communities as caregivers, volunteers and philanthropists. They are leaders in our communities, supporters of our churches and synagogues, helping hands to our neighbors and friends. Come enjoy photos and stories of people like you!
