The Museum of Ashe County History will host Life on the Home Front, a 1940s living history event. Come see history brought to life by members of The Friends of the 40s, a living history organization geared towards educating the public about civilian life during World War II. Visitors will have the opportunity to chat with reenactors and view several displays on topics ranging from Civilian Defense and air raid wardens, to volunteer nurse aids, scrap drives, and women factory workers. This event will also feature members of A Walk in Their Boots living history organization, who will set up a World War II era recruitment station and military display. The event will take place on the museum’s grounds located at 301 East Main Street in Jefferson, NC. This event is FREE and open to the public. However, members of the local Marine Corps League will be present to accept donations to make repairs to Ashe County’s historic veteran’s memorial.
