Join us for a talk with storyteller and painter, Theresa Gloster. Theresa was selected to be one of South Arts Folk & Traditional Arts Master Artist Fellows for 2021. The fellowship recognizes master folk and traditional artists from Appalachian Regional Commission counties in Kentucky, North Carolina and Tennessee who have demonstrated long-term practice and expertise of their art form or cultural practice. A master artist is an individual who possesses exemplary knowledge and skill and is recognized by their cultural community for their contributions. Awards provide financial support for Fellows to continue learning about their artform through continued training, research and/or learning opportunities
Theresa Gloster is a storyteller who conveys her stories through paint and other media. "My art tells stories about childhood, about memories sparked by things that go on in the world today, or about just whatever comes to mind," explained Gloster. "I use paint, brushes, needles, thread, or whatever I can find to create art, and to tell the stories that need to be told." The emphasis is always on stories. Gloster is as much a chronicler as she is a painter; she has always seen her role as a holder and visual teller of stories. That's why kinfolk and community members regularly choose her house for their gatherings—because her home is always filled with painted narratives, reminding all those who have gathered of who they have been and who they are.

The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country, in partnership with Allen Wealth Management, is pleased to announce a new Saturday Morning Family Film Series at the historic King Street landmark in downtown Boone. It is being offered free of charge to the general public. Six family-friendly movie classics will be screened over the summer months on select Saturday mornings between June 18 and August 27 beginning at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a tour of the newly-
renovated and restored 1938 vaudeville theatre and cinema.
Fifty-five years after its first showing at the App Theatre, Disney’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a 1968 British musical-fantasy film starring Dick Van Dyke and Sally Ann Howes. At a rural English garage, two children, Jeremy and Jemima Potts, find a car formerly used for racing in Grand Prix in Europe until it crashed and burned in 1909. When they learn the car is due to be scrapped, they beg their father,
inventor Caractacus, to save it; he makes lots of unsuccessful attempts to sell his inventions to raise
money to buy it, until he earns tips from a song-and-dance act at a carnival. He purchases the car and rebuilds it with a new name, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for the unusual noise of its engine. The film will be screened at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 30.

OUR SATURDAY KIDS THEATER SERIES) A play filled with charm and energetic humor. Creative storytelling drives the action and the actors, and the audience partners in the tales. Two bumbling actors try to present a few of the world's most beloved fairy tales. Unfortunately, their script becomes seriously scrambled and they perform "Goldisocks and the Three Wolves," "The Three Billy Trolls Gruff," and "The Three Little Bears." It takes the help of the whole audience to set the stories straight.
