He is known for his soulful vocals, acoustic guitar and harmonica, passionate delivery, and off the beaten path introspective lyrics. June 2, 2021, marks the release his 5th independent studio album, Lantern Shade, the follow up from his 2019, release of his latest album Wildlife (Miracle Mile Records/After Hours Recorders), which features Bruce Turgon (Foreigner, Lou Gramm, Shadow King) on bass guitar, Morgan Hannaford (Honeybee, Across The Grain, Muletown) on pedal steel guitar and dobro, and National Fiddle Hall of Fame inductee Scott Joss (Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam). Wildlife includes the earworm songs Louise, California Golden, and a rollicking cover of Bob Dylan's Girl from the North Country. Foster has spent much of his life traveling, songwriting, and touring venues across the U.S. with his roots born in the rural Adirondack Mountains of New York to the second half of his life in Northern California. In his music and songwriting you'll hear traces of his upbringing, love of the outdoors, his songwriting heroes, geographic meanderings, and the character's he's met in between. What happens after an artist has achieved his dreams? That was the major question Jason Isbell was asking himself leading up to the creation of his newest album, Reunions, recorded with the 400 Unit and produced by celebrated producer Dave Cobb. After all, four-time Grammy winner Isbell is at the top of his game. He is widely acclaimed as one of our best songwriters and possesses a devoted audience who have pushed his last two albums to the tops of the charts.  “Success is a very nice problem to have, but I think, ‘How do I get through it and not lose what made me good in the first place?’” he says. “A lot of these songs and the overall concept of this album is, how do I progress as an artist and a human being and still keep that same hunger that I had when I wasn’t quite so far along in either respect.” Isbell’s solution: to go back in time with his hard-gained knowledge. The result is a seamless collection of 10 new songs that delve into relationships with lovers, friends, children, parents, and one’s self. There are rousing anthems that will have stadiums singing along, lyrical standouts that highlight some of Isbell’s best writing to date, moving looks at youth and childhood, a deep dive into the challenges of relationships, and deeply personal songs about alcoholism and parenthood. All of them offer us an artist at the height of his powers and a band fully charged with creativity and confidence.  More information at http://www.jasonisbell.com/ Instagram: @jasonisbell Twitter: @JasonIsbell

Journalists flocked to the region to extract sympathetic profiles of families devastated by poverty, abandoned by establishment politics, and eager to consume cheap campaign promises. What You Are Getting Wrong About Appalachia is a frank assessment of America's recent fascination with the people and problems of the region. The book analyzes trends in contemporary writing on Appalachia, presents a brief history of Appalachia with an eye toward unpacking Appalachian stereotypes, and provides examples of writing, art, and policy created by Appalachians as opposed to for Appalachians. The book offers a must-needed insider's perspective on the region. (148 pages) Buy from Foggy Pine Books - https://www.foggypinebooks.com/store/p1714/9780998904146.html#/

As one of the world’s most popular herbal remedies, ginseng is revered in China, where its roots have been consumed for its purported immune-system enhancing and energy-boosting qualities for millenia. While large scale plantations of shade-cultivated ginseng are grown in Wisconsin and Ontario for export to Asia, the cryptic, shade-loving plant grows naturally in the rich mountain forests of western North Carolina. Each fall, locals hit the woods in search of the plant to dig its unique root, which can fetch up to $1,000 per pound. Overharvest and poaching are now threatening this native plant and the traditions that many in the region hold dear. In his presentation, “Roots in Appalachia”, Dr. Jim Hamilton will discuss the significance of ginseng to western North Carolina, its role in local and global markets, and other cultural nuances of ‘seng.
