FREE Music Venues in the NC High Country

If you want to hear some great local music, you are in luck!  The NC High Country has many free music venues featuring local artists all days and nights of the week.  Here is a list of free music venues for the summer of 2015:



  • Crossnore Jam
    : Town Meeting House, Crossnore Drive, Crossnore, 828-733-0360
    What: Live jam sessions- bring an instrument if you would like to join in!

  • The Orchard at Altapass

    What: Live bands and jams.  Indoors at the Orchard Store.  Enjoy a cone of ice cream or a slice of apple pie!
    When: Every day (except Monday & Tuesday) around 12-4

  • Sunday Sunset Concert Series
    Where: Fred’s Merchantile, 501 Beech Mtn Pkwy, Beech Mtn, 828-387-4838
    What: In the summer, local musicians serenade visitors at Fred’s Mercantile Gazebo. Be sure to bring a chair & blanket!
    When: Sundays (July 12- Aug 2nd) @ 6:30 pm


  • Banner Elk Music in the Park
    Where: Tate-Evans Park, 210 Park Ave, Banner Elk, 828-898-8395What: Eclectic Music on an outdoor stage.  Food vendors are sometimes on site.  Bring your own chair & blanket!

  • Appalachian State Hayes School of Music
    Where: 813 Rivers St., Boone, 828-262-3020
    What: An array of faculty, student & guest performances. Grand opera to jazz to bluegrass is showcased.
    When: Concerts usually last an hour and take place weeknights and Sunday afternoons indoors

  • Blowing Rock Concerts in the Park
    Where: Memorial Park, Blowing Rock, 828-295-7851
    What: Feature a wide array of music in the gazebo in the park. Bring a chair and enjoy!

  • Blowing Rock Town Concert Series
    Broyhill Park, Blowing Rock (rain location: The Blowing Rock American Legion Hall)
    A variety of music at the gazebo. Bring a chair or blanketWhen: Monday nights: July 13,20, 27 & August 3,10 @ 7 pm

  • Music on the Veranda
    Green Park Inn, Blowing Rock
    What:  Listen to a variety of performers on the historic front veranda of the 2nd oldest inn in North Carolina!  The location is also covered in case of rain. Some chairs are available at the Inn, but bring your own if you can just in case!When: Sundays @ 5 pm through mid-September

  • Music on the Lawn
    Where: The Inn at Ragged Gardens, Sunset Drive, Blowing Rock
    What: The most popular concert series in Blowing Rock, arrive early and being a chair.  A cash bar and lawn menu are available.  Please no dogs at this event.

    Where: Downtown West Jefferson on the Backstreet
    What: Eclectic mix of musical performers at the outdoor park stage.  Bring a chair or blanket

  • Crouse House Pickers
    Where: 60 Cherry Street, Sparta, 800-372-5473
    What: Jam sessions are held on the house porch and stage.  Bring an instrument if you want to join in!  Bring a chair or blanket

    Where: 102 W Main Street, Boone
    What: Enjoy live music, fresh food and shop the artisan market.  Seating is provided
